Benakasar is an artist. He was wrapped up in his own little world for many years and patronized throughout them. Therefore, he believed that he was one of the best Kheldian artists ever. Whether or not he really is will be eventually decided. When he got shot by a Void (he didn't try to save someone; someone tried to save him), he learned to hate them. He also saw that a hero existed to defend innocents, and that the particular hero was "beautiful" to him.

When he first joined with Nathan, he decided to let "him" drive until he understood what was going on around him. Unfortunately, Nathan believed that he no longer existed, and another fractured personality came forward, Masonry. Masonry was Nathan, but Nathan didn't want to believe it. Also, Ben didn't want him to believe it, either.

Ben provided many instances of alleged contact with people that may or may not have really happened. He clouded over instances, twisted words and some of Nathan's thoughts into what he wanted - he was an artist (Kheldians use a different word that directly translates into "manipulator"), after all, and he could put Nathan to "sleep". He sometimes assumed Masonry's personality as a test drive, but couldn't stay long because the world ran him down.

Ben's world was his own, perfect in his eyes. Imperfections didn't exist in his world. Everything he created was perfect and precious and beautiful. And now, out in this world, in the human world (imperfect creatures in the first place), there's so much imperfection, so much wrong.

The first wrong thing is the injustice around him. What happened to E got right to him and he came out as vengeful Masonry - yes, I can bring beauty by battling the injustices of the world. Well, the world's a rather big place, and there's too much injustice going on to simply beat up a few Hellions and say you're done. Plus the mediocrity (yeah, how pompous is that) of the world irritates him.

Going back into Masonry's "husk", he contemplated things and watched Masonry go through the world. Seeing Kit's sorrow at Masonry's death generated feelings in Masonry which Ben appreciated - wish for comfort and to protect this fragile creature (in his mind). I can do that, he thinks. Well, too many women don't want to be protected. They're tough enough, thank you.

Meanwhile he saw things by appearances. Any scar, any mark, any small imperfection in voice, manner - basically, what didn't match his version of beauty (Providence is beautiful to him; so is Mally Able in his/its bug form - but E is not because he has to use the reinforcement in his arm), was considered "marred" and imperfect. It didn't belong in his world. It didn't belong in this world.

Forget about Fyre. Fyre rebuffed everyone--again, another one of those "tough females". Therefore she was a Warshade before she joined with Serra - in Ben's opinion. He also vehemently holds onto what he thinks is right, even if it's blatantly wrong. An example: He will constantly think E's present "boss" is the "boss" who tortured him, and he believes that such an imperfect being as E would gravitate to the imperfect "boss" who created him. He will also believe Thad is a perfect physical specimen, no matter how he treats women. (I need to explain Masonry's anger that he projected to Kit - maybe Nathan's angry at Thad's treatment of her?)

Once he realizes his initial perceptions are wrong, he switches entirely. You're no longer perfect. However, I'm not sure if there should be exceptions. Thad, Kit, Scott, Providence, Rusty (oh, I can only imagine how he feels about him!).

He can control Nathan by still being able to manipulate his emotions and feelings. He distracts him and kind of slips in around Nathan's consciousness. However Ben can't hold Nathan back entirely, because Nathan will realize that he's being distracted and will fight his way out of the "dream" that Ben placed him (E's word: "contained"). What Nathan needs to do is head Ben off at the pass, and that's what he's working on now. Ben comes out when Nathan's scared, mad, unconscious, or sees something particularly amazing (new graphics card, doncha know).

What's going on behind the scenes: Painting therapy. Ben is allowed to "come out" during painting or other artwork. When he does, he's calm - but, again, Ben's in his own little world of his own creation, and nothing else seems to exist. When Masonry has to go to work, I'm not sure what will happen to Masonry during work.

My plan tonight is to present Sunfallen rerolled onto the soon-to-be-renamed Silent-Bob account, as a translator/reporter. Though Ice offered Hope's services. That will be absolutely fun!

Lightning strike:

Playing Masonry 2.0 yesterday. Remember yesterday's blog when I mentioned a third part of Masonry that kinda slipped out? Well, yesterday while playing him and we were fighting Council, I suddenly typed, "Vermin."

I started at it, and that's when the lightning strike's after-effects hit. What if, as time goes by, Masonry suddenly starts to believe he's a real Peacebringer? All these enemies are embodiments of pure evil, and he becomes suddenly extreme and has no tolerance for anything done against innocent people? Especially when it comes to his friends? He becomes, in his mind, pure Justice (with a capital J).

Where did these come from? Nathan had a sense that what he did was good, and the bad things he did he hid because he was embarrassed by them. Ben harbored a fear/hatred of the Voids after what they did to him, and this hatred was foremost in his mind when he moved into Nathan's body - which explains why Masonry rushes headlong into them, regardless of knowing that they kill him in 2, maybe 3 shots.

Masonry will believe that Voids and Quantums are the evillest creatures of the world. Nictus run a close second. And anyone who helps Voids and Quantums are just as bad. I think every 3rd bar or so I'll bring up this intolerance, and after he hits 30 or so it'll be every 3rd and sixth bar. We'll see how that runs.

Readers sometimes write. That's what this blog's for, the stuff I write, and exploring the characters/ideas in an empty space.

The newest idea is Masonry. I'm going to take Masonry and turn it into a novella. Basically it's going to be about a pharmacist who takes an injection that makes him big and strong. At first he chooses to exact revenge against his high school mates. In between his memory and intelligence goes down the tubes. He ends up working for a small mom & pop hardware store run by a pair of Italian brothers.

Dramatis Personae:

They call him Mason because he's a really good bricklayer (basically, ADD traits). He can build walls on his own because he can also carry the bricks. Darcy is the same as he is in the CoH universe, except he doesn't do armor. He helps with the chemistry.

There's the Palumbo brothers, Tommy and Stevie (Raynes boys, Thad and Scott). Tommy's the playboy and Stevie's the adult. Dad is like the Godfather, pops in to put the fear of God into everyone (except Mase because he just doesn't see it). The sister Lizzy (Bits) is the 13 year old terror that no one can stand who constantly comes on to the help.

Providencia Lombardi is a 40 year old tinkerer who's constantly breaking things. (combines Kit as a constant klutz and Providence's age) She works in the office with: Virginia (Ginny or even Gin) Carter, a 20-something that acts like a superficial blond but does that so guys will get her things she wants. She is actually very intelligent. (Based very loosely on Artemis, but probably not going to - Artie has a TX accent and a jealous streak with Ginny won't have.)

Manny is the drunken loader - the one who packs and loads the trucks. (based on husband's description of a co-worker of the same name)

Emil. He's a young Jewish boy who's ambisexual. He and Mase have sex once or twice. (Unsure.)

Tina, Manny's wife. She looks like the typical Italian mom and always seems to play Scott's heartstrings. When Scott threatens to fire Manny she comes in and begs for his job back. This is a constant thing. (based on husband's co-worker's wife)

Plotlines:

Mason's deterieration, shots, murders, and whether or not he gets caught.

A huge hardware box-store opens up just down the street and threatens to put Palumbo's ("Pal's") out of business. Union employees from that store come down to threaten Pal's people. (Based on an actual event, though it wasn't as blatant as this. Union employees went down to a local hardware store and passed out handbills. When the place closed down, many of the employees at that local store went to work for Home Depot. A cousin told me this.)

Darcy and Ginny grow to like each other but I don't know if they'll be an item by the end of the story.

Scenes:

Mason gets into a truck and the springs sink loudly. (He's getting denser as well as turning to stone.)

He kills himself by jumping off a bridge into a river - he sinks, suffocates, and dies.

Masonry says no to Lizzy.

Masonry has sex with Emil once but after two more shots can no longer do it.

Tommy's constantly getting into trouble but it's not serious mafia types he gets in trouble with. No shooting is involved until the Teamsters show up. Tommy doesn't do drugs or gamble, but likes to do anything in a skirt.

Lizzy isn't half as bad as Tommy (she's a girl, she's very young, and constantly wants to be "cute"). Prov tries to discipline her (sort of) and Lizzy ignores her. Ginny is able to discipline her but in a much gentler way - it also helps that Lizzy looks up to Ginny and tries to emulate her.
